It is not in life, but in art that self-fulfillment is to be found.

Nature is a good name for an effect whose cause is God.

I think you can leave the arts, superior or inferior, to the conscience of mankind.

I dream of painting and then I paint my dream.

The old cathedrals are good, but the great blue dome that hangs over everything is better.

art is an outlet for creativity, and not the other way around

No matter how many goals you have achieved, you must set your sights on a higher one.

Art is like baby shoes. When you coat them with gold, they can no longer be worn.

Land is the secure ground of home, the sea is like life, the outside, the unknown.

Art requires neither complaisance nor politeness; nothing but faith, faith and freedom.

Still lifes give us permission to just look and react. We don't have to deal with anyone's emotions but our own, and we don't have to manage expectations. It is one of the best painting exercises I could ever recommend.

"Painters are engaged not just in covering a surface with paint, but also in the act of expressing emotion or content that is not sayable in words. ...Everyone who has a success story has found a way to make art that is deeply meaningful to them. That, in turn, affects and moves other people."

No matter how successful we are, no matter how famous we get, at some point someone is going to compare you to someone even more famous. (Because there’s always someone more famous than you!)

Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art.

Love possesses not nor will it be possessed, for love is sufficient unto love.

What happens is not as important as how you react to what happens.

An artist's sphere of influence is the world.

Your talent shines when you do what you love.

Explore, experiment, try new things, but be honest with yourself. Create the works that give you the most fulfillment and satisfaction. Look at your work and see if you can identify your voice. Create the works that are you. Be you.

Oh, love will make a dog howl in rhyme.

"Atmosphere is an incredibly important element when taking on the job of painting landscapes. Atmosphere is not just the way the sky looks, but the way the surroundings appear. The sky is the vehicle for weather, and the weather affects everything it touches."

The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing.
