I control what I think about the universe and how I may respond to it – such a simple yet life-altering concept

We each have the right and the power to choose at any given moment. I don’t have to respond with anger just because that’s the patterned response I learned as a child. I don’t have to be fearful now just because I responded with fear in the past. I don’t have to blame or feel guilt or shame or anything else that lessens my sense of self. I am not obliged to accept what others may think. I am at choice. Does that mean I control the universe? No. It means that I control what I think about the universe and how I may respond to it – such a simple yet life-altering concept.

Artists are told many things about the way the world is, about who they are, and how worthy their work may or may not be. It takes a lot of courage sometimes to continue in the face of what seems like never-ending negativity. But, we have that ultimate freedom. We are free to choose what we think and how we respond to those “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,” which may neither be arrows nor outrageous. We have the power to choose wisely.
